Charlene Griffiths

Passed To Her Eternal Reward

14/01/2012

Ar Dhéis Dé go Raibh a hAnam Uasal

It is with great sadness that CLG Bhriain OIg Bhaile Stil announces the untimely death our Ladies Captain, Underage Coach, Former Cultural Officer, and exemplary Gael, “Charlene Griffiths” at the young age of 27.
Charlene was a life long member of our club and participated in all aspects of club life both as a player and administrator. She also represented the club at both junior and senior Scor.
Charlene was a past pupil of Thornhill College where she developed her love of the Irish language through the inspiration of Fergal McGuigan, and also a graduate of the University of Ulster where she studied the Irish Language. Up to the time of her illness she was a Bunscoil teacher.

Charlene will be sorely missed not only by her colleagues at CLG Bhriain Óig Baile Stíl but also the wider GAA community.

Volunteers Needed

The club is looking for volunteers who would be willing to give some time to help with coaching in our local schools. This would involve helping the coaches who are already in the schools to promote Gaelic football and our club. We also would like these people to assist with setting up some local school blitzs. If you think that you can give up a couple of hours during school time at any stage between February to June contact Dominic at brianogscoaching@ hotmail.com or let any coach within the club know.  Those interested should have the Child protection &Foundation courses. This would be of great help for the club’s development in this important year, as well as individual development.

Ulster U12 Community Games

Steelstown U12 girls team took part in the Ulster Community Games at Templemore Sports Complex last Saturday. The team was mainly made up of under 10 players and faced a very strong challenge from the Cavan champions Scotstown. Although the Derry girls were beaten in the end some very good performances were given by, Fionnuala Flanagan who was resolute in defense snuffing out many an attack, Clodagh Laverty in midfield who’s vision and skill set up many attacks and the player of the match was undoubtedly Ella Sainsbury who set herself apart from every player on the pitch because of her skill, surging runs that had the Cavan defense in complete disarray and her ease of taking scores. Well done to the Steelstown girls and the future certainly looks bright for girls football in the city.
